I have been invited this weekend to a wedding in Essex, which I won't lie, I was feeling a little dubious about. The last time I saw anything about Essex weddings it involved the model Jodie Marsh in a red wedding dress looking awful. I don't want to presume that every Essex marriage is going to be tacky and untraditional but girls from that region of the UK don't always get the best press.
So I was preparing for the worst really but have to say I was pleasantly surprised once I arrived there. It was held in a beautiful country manor which overlooked stunning countryside. There was not a pair of white knee high boots or fake hair extensions anywhere. In fact everyone looked very smart and beautiful and I felt very ashamed for believing some of the rumours I had heard about Essex weddings.
After the service we were all invited to drink some champagne in the gardens of the manor and I really found myself enjoying the luxury of being away from the city. I guess when I thought of Essex I forgot about all of the lovely countryside there is, which really is the perfect backdrop to a wedding. Luckily the weather was really bright for the wedding and meant it was lovely sitting in the sun with a glass of bubbly watching the bride have her photos done.
After the photos all of the guests were invited in to this fantastic room to have some dinner, the building was truly magnificent and with all the tables laid out looked very regal indeed. I really did have to swallow my words from earlier and accept that my pre-conceived ideas about Essex weddings really were wrong. I was eating delicious food, surrounded by wonderful company in one of the loveliest places I have been to for a wedding.
By the time the evening came the wedding reception had moved outside to a tent that had a live band inside and a really good vibe. So needless to say by the end of the evening I really had realised how wrong I had been about Essex weddings and that you should never prejudge anything because you will probably be very wrong. In fact, I am even considering looking into booking that incredible venue for my own wedding. I just hope that none of my guests are as ignorant as I was before this wedding otherwise they really will miss out on something very special!
