One of the most common services that is offered by a courier today is GPS tracking. GPS stands for global positioning system, and is a technology that uses a series of satellites to provide the user of the technology with their exact location. When integrated with map software, GPS provides a powerful tracking and routing tool. Now, your PA delivery service probably uses GPS tracking so that you can check on the status of your shipment and see exactly where it is at any time of day.

Usually, checking this information is a very easy process. When you first request a shipment with any courier company, the first thing that they're going to give you is a tracking or a reference number. It is always important that you keep this number for a variety of purposes, but one thing it can be used for is to track your shipment. Usually this is done today in an online system. A quick visit to your courier's website will probably yield a field where you can enter this tracking number and easily find out exactly where your package is.

GPS services and tracking is becoming common enough that you shouldn't have to pay extra for it anymore. Some courier companies love to charge extra for every single service that they offer you. You should know though, that there are lots of courier companies out there that provide GPS tracking on every shipment at no extra charge. If your courier levies a fee for the service, you should consider looking elsewhere for a delivery company.

GPS tracking has become almost industry standard across the entire courier industry. That means, if you're doing business with a courier that hasn't yet implemented GPS, they're behind the curve. These aren't always the best companies to do business with, as they may be slow to put into place other new technologies which could be useful to you.

GPS tracking is also something that will let your customers rest assured that their packages are being tracked properly. Many companies will provide a tracking number to their clients as well, so that the customers can watch and find out where their package is at any time. With buyer confidence still not recovered after the recession, it can be useful to use any tools at your disposal to help reassure the customer. Using your courier's GPS tracking is a good way to do that.
