Everyone is looking to save as much money as they possibly can during these tough economic times and there are literally hundreds of thousands who want to learn Spanish online for free.
To learn Spanish for free is possible, but it is never going to be as affective as purchasing a full course; for a start a full course will approach a language in a certain methodical manner that makes learning Spanish much easier; whereas you will find that all the free learning material you find on the internet will normally be incomplete and will inevitably lead to a sales pitch for a full course purchase.
You can jump around the internet finding snippets of free material that can be pieced together to resemble a course, but is it advisable? In this honest Joe's opinion; no it isn't!
The reason is that good free Spanish learning material isn't a bad thing on the whole and can, and does, add to the enjoyment of learning Spanish; unfortunately, it can also be, at times, terrible.
The last thing someone needs when learning a language is mis-information, and it is for this reason alone I would have to advise against anyone thinking that they can learn Spanish online completely free.
Still, I do understand that people do not have the funds to splash out on an all singing all dancing Spanish course and that is why I'm going to suggest two things;
Firstly:
If you are a UK resident or have access to UK TV Networks in particular BBC2; you will be able to enjoy the best FREE Basic Spanish education available.
If you are dead set that you will learn Spanish online free then go to the BBC website and open up their Spanish educational pages. There you will find a lot of free resource material and actual courses that are designed to accompany the TV shows such as 'Mi vida loca' and 'Spanish Steps'.
However, if you don't have access to BBC2, you can still use the available online material as there are also video streams and complete transcripts of the TV shows, all for absolutely nothing!
Another great aspect of learning from this site is that the Spanish being taught is Castilian, which is the Spanish used in Spain and is the Spanish that all other countries variations derive from.
Secondly:
I still think that you will be in need of a good Spanish CONVERSATIONAL course and a review of some of the most popular courses online can be found in the resource box at the end of this article. Many of these courses offer a free trial period allowing you to try before you buy.
If they don't offer a trial period don't bother either they have a poor product or want to make you buy the product without trying it out!
There are many excellent courses available online but I'm a firm believer in popularity being the best pointer when choosing products; a vast number of people buying the same product rather than a product in direct competition hints at which is the better product, wouldn't you agree?
