Comedian Kathy Griffin never misses a beat when it comes to one-liners. Recently while Griffin was strolling the red carpet at the 2009 Emmy Awards, a reported caught her attention and asked her which Twilight vampire she would prefer. Seriously is there any other answer...what's the other guy's name? Griffin, who's clearly thought about such a scenario, didn't bat an eye. Though she's a tad concerned about the well-being of Pattinson, saying "He looks like he's about to die anyway so I've got to grab him and f*** him while I can." Another thing that Griffin is well-known for is her apparent lack of subtlety, so Robert did you get the hint? Catch Kathy on one of her stand-up shows, by going online and purchasing your own pair of Kathy Griffin tickets.
The self-proclaimed "D-List" celebrity is known for her relentless sarcasm and dead pan deliveries of hilarious jokes. Griffin got her start on the stage in the early 1980s by joining with the Los Angeles improve comedy troupe, The Groundlings. This gig led her into the L.A. comedy scene, and she amassed spots on stages throughout the city.
In the early 1990s, Griffin found her way into bit parts in movies and also set her gaze on the prospects of a career in television. Her sensational breakthrough on the small screen came in 1996 when she scored a role on the NBC sitcom Suddenly Susan opposite Brooke Shields. Just two years later she landed a special on HBO called Kathy Griffin: A Hot Cup of Talk. Her self-deprecating style of comedy and her oft-admitted small status among some of Hollywood's elite helped turn her into star among the comedy ranks.
While Kathy Griffin makes no attempts at smoothing over feelings, she is constantly poking fun at celebrities like Barbara Walters, Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Kristie Alley and Whitney Houston (just to name a few); she is also quite often the object of her own humor.
One of Griffin's major successes is a reality show titled Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List. The show is based on the comedian's own struggle with climbing the Hollywood ladder. The show has garnered several nominations and awards since its television debut. The fifth season of the show premiered in 2009.
Not without substantial controversy, Griffin has found herself at the center of several disputes over the years. Her comments during the Creative Arts Emmy ceremony were condemned by the Catholic League, which urged the academy to denounce Griffin's acceptance speech remarks as they regarded it blasphemy. She also received some ire after making a remark about child actress Dakota Fanning entering a rehab facility, which was false. The incident got her banned from her hosting duties on E!'s red carpet award show.
Kathy Griffin is hard to miss. With brightly brilliant red hair and a snarky attitude to match, she has become the talk of tinsel town. In fact, perhaps she has graduated from her D-List status, I'd say at least a C.
